Since its completion two months ago, the mobile WiMax standard has finally been approved by IEEE in December, officially designated 802.16e-2005. Trials and certification testing are expected to kick off in the first quarter of 2006, with commercialization scheduled for late 2006 or 2007. The development bodes well for Korea's WiBro technology, as earlier on the standard was made compliant with the 802.16e specification.
